The adsorption principle of carbon is that a layer of balanced surface concentration is formed on the surface of its particles, and then the impurities are adsorbed into the carbon particles. The adsorption effect is very high at the beginning of use. However, over time, the adsorption capacity of carbon will be weakened to varying degrees, and the adsorption effect will also decline. If the water quality in the aquarium is turbid and the content of substances in the water is high, the carbon will soon lose its filtering function. Therefore, the carbon should be cleaned or replaced regularly.

The size of carbon particles also affects the adsorption capacity. In general, the smaller the carbon particles, the larger the filtration area. Therefore, the total area of powdered carbon is large and the adsorption effect is good, but the powdered carbon is easy to flow into the aquarium with water, which is difficult to control and rarely used. Granular carbon is not easy to flow due to particle formation, and impurities such as water substances are not easy to block in the carbon filter layer. Its adsorption capacity is strong, and it is easy to carry and replace.

The adsorption capacity of activated carbon is proportional to the contact time with water. The longer the contact time is, the better the filtered water quality will be. Note: The filtered water should flow out of the filter layer slowly. The new carbon should be washed and cleaned before use, or there will be black water flowing out. Before the carbon is loaded, the filter should be paved with 2~3cm thick sponge at the bottom and top to prevent the infiltration of algae and other large particle impurities. After the carbon is used for 2~3 months, if the filtering effect drops, the carbon should be replaced, and the sponge layer should also be replaced regularly.
